RE: Need some help on a pop up

If you can find one of the older ones like mine in my sig, then yes it is a matter of knocking the axle off and cutting the tongue off and welding the rest of the frame in place on your other trailer.

RE: Happy Canada Day

I was with our Navy League Cadets from Vernon, down in Victoria for Tall Ships as part of our long weekend. Victoria set a record for high temp on Saturday, and that temp was taken at the Harbour where Tall Ships was. Happy Canada Day from the Okanagan Valley.

RE: Sask HWY 35

I wasn't going to say it, but now I will. Over the years, the Saskatchewan government has taken the fuel tax dollars from commercial fuel for transports and not put it back into the roads. They spend it on other things, but not infrastructure. You only have your own government to blame for that.
And ib516 I resemble that comment about "tree hugging", at least the trees I want to haul after they have been cut up and I get to haul the wood chips.

RE: RV wreck in KC today - see newa video

There were eleven people in the RV. What kind of RV was it that holds eleven passengers (legally)? Mine only has seatbelts for six.
The other point being Virginia to Montana with that many people. I guess some people have more money than brains.
Humans require a brain. Too bad use is OPTIONAL!!!

RE: Newbie camper---what equipment will we all need?!

Another way to get camp equipment is to check out www.freecycle.com to see if there is one in your area. We have gotten alot of our kitchen stuff from freecycle. I have seen a tent trailer, an older travel trailer, and various camp items in our area, and we are only about 60000 for total population.

RE: Diesel Jetta as TV?

One thing to remember when pulling with a turbo unit is that when pull off the road and want to stop for gas or whatever, let the engine idle for 5 minutes to let the turbo cool off and spin down to low rpms. The turbo is cooled by lower air intake temps and the oil puling heat from the bearings and the oil cooler doing its job. Seeing a glowing red turbo just after pulling off the road with the engine stopped leads me to think that the turbo will not last long.

RE: Cranbrook BC Walmart/area for quick overnight?

I ask that you dont stay at the Husky in Cranbrook. There is only about 6 parking stalls there for the trucks. If you park in the mall right behind the Husky close to the Husky property line, I dont think you will have any trouble. I have seen other overnighters do that there.

There is a point that some of you missed here. The OP has a Jetta, and is not looking for other TV's.

RE: camp kitchen

The camp kitchen pantry is not designed for food storage. We keep our food stuffs in our TV only. The only thing that goes into the pantry is the dishes, utensiles and cleaning supplies.

RE: New Driver's Licence in Ontario June 16th 08

It was never about the RV'ers.
The failure in this new system is still the lack of address to RV specific requirements. The medical situation should be given reasonable accommodation of some adjustment considering the weights of our rigs NEVER approaching the 80,000lb nature of a "commercial" driven rig as well as the miles and hours of operation NEVER coming close to their norm's. We are out there doing this for our enjoyment with family aboard and not pushing ourselves to make a schedule or compete for the next load on the dock. We are also using equipment we bought and payed for ourselves and while that may be true also for some of the independants, their loads are owned by someone else and they are being compensated in a manner that allows them to pay for their equipment (or should be unless they're really stupid) and this generic "one size fits all" commercial aspect just doesn't cover our needs. Consider the griping you'd be subject to if we were to run the scales or border crossings as we are entitled to if, after all, we are deemed commercial by default.
Think about this then, even though you may not weigh 80,000 lbs you are still considerable heavier than what the normal drivers license is designed for. What do you think would happen to a 25,000 unit or even a 15,000 unit if you had a health issue while driving. You have now become an unguided missile aim at a random target. At that weight, you will do considerable damage to whatever you hit. And that is why you still need your medical for this requirement. It is not the long hours of driving that requires the medical, but the physics behind the impact!!! GET OVER IT.
